[ My First Month at CK / 청강에 처음 와서 놀랐던 점, 적응 과정, 기억에 남는 순간 ]

My first month at CK was amazing in all ways. Since it was my first academic experience I had a lot of expectation and worries to be the sole African student and thought I wouldn’t receive a good welcoming or I would be treated differently to my pair(other international student) but it was completely different the university offer a huge amount of help including in my school life, they helped me to find friend offer me accommodation and even propose my a part time job at one of their facilities. I’m so thankful for their warm welcome.

청강에서 보낸 첫 한 달은 여러 면에서 정말 놀라운 경험이었습니다. 저에게는 처음으로 경험하는 대학생활이었기 때문에 기대도 많았지만 걱정도 많았습니다. 특히 제가 유일한 아프리카 출신 학생이어서 다른 유학생들과 달리 환영받지 못하거나 다르게 대우받지는 않을까 걱정하기도 했습니다.
하지만 실제로는 제가 생각했던 것과 전혀 달랐습니다. 학교에서는 대학생활 전반에 걸쳐 정말 많은 도움을 주었습니다. 친구를 사귈 수 있도록 도와주었고, 생활할 수 있는 숙소도 지원해 주었으며, 학교 시설 중 한 곳에서 할 수 있는 아르바이트까지 제안해 주었습니다. 따뜻하게 맞아준 학교에 정말 감사하게 생각하고 있습니다.

[ What Surprised Me About Studying in Korea / 한국 대학생활에서 예상과 달랐던 점 ]

From what I know about student life in my home country, studying in South Korea has a different program, and students are used to being really focused on their studies(students). What surprised me the most was how much the students and professors were focused and seemed interested in their work; the intensity of work was also amazing.

제가 알고 있던 고향의 대학생활과 비교하면 한국의 대학생활은 수업 방식이나 분위기가 많이 다릅니다. 특히 한국 학생들은 학업에 상당히 집중하는 것처럼 느껴졌습니다.
가장 놀랐던 점은 학생들과 교수님들이 자신의 작업과 전공에 얼마나 집중하고 관심을 가지고 있는지였습니다. 과제와 작업의 양이나 그 과정에서 보여주는 열정과 집중력 또한 인상적이었습니다.

[ My Favorite Place on Campus / 학교 캠퍼스에서 좋아하는 공간 ]

My favorite place in all of the campus would be the Manhwa library; it’s a place where you can read your favorite chef d’oeuvre while taking a sip of juice or coffee, basically just relaxing with good background music. I don’t really go there often, but when I’m in, I just enjoy my time.

캠퍼스에서 제가 가장 좋아하는 곳은 만화도서관입니다. 좋아하는 작품이나 명작을 읽으면서 주스나 커피를 마시고, 좋은 배경음악과 함께 편안하게 쉴 수 있는 공간입니다.
자주 방문하는 편은 아니지만, 만화도서관에 갈 때마다 그곳에서 보내는 시간을 온전히 즐기려고 합니다.

[ 5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming to CK / 입학 전 알았으면 좋았을 현실적인 팁]

Before coming at CK I would’ve like to know that the school offer full support for the student who are ready in their domain, the school organize or offer to participate in so much different art, webtoon content, novel, animation…organization so you have a lot of opportunity to show your work and you understand that through the school you can have more opportunity to archive your goal with the help of the professors in case of help.

청강에 오기 전에 알았으면 좋았을 점 중 하나는, 학교가 자신의 전공 분야에서 적극적으로 활동하고자 하는 학생들을 정말 많이 지원해 준다는 것입니다.
학교에서는 미술, 웹툰, 콘텐츠, 소설, 애니메이션 등 다양한 분야의 행사와 프로그램을 직접 운영하거나 외부 행사에 참여할 기회를 제공합니다. 덕분에 자신의 작품을 보여줄 수 있는 기회가 많습니다.
또 학교와 교수님들의 도움을 통해 혼자 준비할 때보다 훨씬 다양한 기회를 얻을 수 있고, 자신의 목표에 조금 더 가까이 다가갈 수 있다는 점도 알게 되었습니다.

[ What Classes Are Really Like at CK / 전공 수업 분위기, 과제, 교수님과의 소통 방식 ]

At CK, we have two kinds of classes: theoretical and practical. The theoretical class is more focused on writing activities and group projects. On the other hand, the practical class focuses more on knowing and developing your skill; you can have classes such as a character drawing class, digital drawing, or basically have a short animation group project in animation major.

청강의 수업은 크게 이론 수업과 실습 수업 두 가지로 나눌 수 있습니다.
이론 수업에서는 글쓰기 활동이나 그룹 프로젝트가 비교적 많은 편입니다. 반면 실습 수업은 새로운 기술을 배우거나 자신이 가지고 있는 능력을 발전시키는 데 더 집중합니다.
예를 들어 애니메이션 전공에서는 캐릭터 드로잉, 디지털 드로잉과 같은 실습 수업을 들을 수 있고, 짧은 애니메이션을 팀 프로젝트로 제작하기도 합니다.

[ My Portfolio/ Artwork Journey at CK / 입학 전 작품과 현재 작품, 어떻게 달라졌는지 ]

Coming to CK changed my first major choice. I have more facility when it comes to writing a new story, making my own universe and so but since I had more interest in webcomics than in novels. I chose the webtoon manhwa content major. My art journey is progressing slowly but effectively.

청강에 오면서 처음 생각했던 전공 선택도 달라졌습니다.
저는 새로운 이야기를 쓰거나 저만의 세계관을 만드는 것에 비교적 자신이 있었지만, 소설보다 웹코믹에 더 많은 관심이 있다는 것을 깨닫게 되었습니다. 그래서 현재는 웹툰만화콘텐츠 전공을 선택했습니다.
제 작품 활동은 아직 천천히 발전하고 있지만, 분명하게 조금씩 성장하고 있다고 느끼고 있습니다.

[ Why I Chose CK / 한국과 청강을 선택한 이유 ]

CK is the only or one of the sole universities to focus only on art, to have around people who can understand your universe, help you in your project, and a place that you’re sure to find future work partners… I think after reviewing all these options, my choice of coming to CK was the good one.

청강은 예술과 콘텐츠 분야에 특화된 몇 안 되는 대학 중 하나라고 생각합니다.
자신만의 세계관과 작업을 이해해 줄 수 있는 사람들을 주변에서 만날 수 있고, 서로의 프로젝트를 도와줄 수도 있습니다. 또한 앞으로 함께 작업할 수 있는 동료나 파트너를 만날 가능성도 큰 곳이라고 생각합니다.
이런 여러 가지 점들을 직접 경험하고 나니, 청강을 선택해서 오게 된 것은 좋은 선택이었다고 생각합니다.

[ Tips for Future International Students / 다음 유학생들에게 해주고 싶은 현실적인 조언 ]

For future international students, I’ll recommend that they come with resolution, CK as many Korean universities are places of hard work, and focus-slacking attention or effort can be fatal. Also, since it’s about art, I’ll recommend not rushing and working at your own pace while respecting the deadline.

앞으로 유학을 오게 될 학생들에게는 확고한 각오를 가지고 오시기를 권하고 싶습니다. 청강대처럼 많은 한국 대학은 열심히 공부하고 집중해야 하는 곳이기 때문에, 집중력이 떨어지거나 노력을 게을리했다간 큰 화를 부를 수 있습니다. 또한 예술 분야인 만큼, 마감 기한을 지키되 서두르지 말고 자신의 속도에 맞춰 작업하기를 권해 드립니다.
